William Keepers Maxwell Jr. is best known as a Non-Fiction Author. His other works include The Folded Leaf, The Chateau, and a short story collection entitled Over by the River. William Keepers Maxwell Jr. was born on August 16, 1908 in Illinois.
When he was ten years old, he watched his mother die as a result of the 1918 flu epidemic. His more than fifty-year marriage to painter Emily Gilman Noyes produced two daughters. He studied at the University of Illinois and then earned a master's degree from Harvard University. He later worked as an editor of The New Yorker.
