She comes from a renowned speed skating family which includes her parents, Janina Korowicka and Georg Friesinger, as well as her siblings Jan and Agnes. She married Dutch speed skater Ids Postma, with whom she has children, in 2009. She was born in Bad Reichenhall, Germany and first gained international attention by winning silver in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters at the 1997 World Single Distance Championships.
